A New Reason to Smile
As we wrap up 2020, I’m reflecting on all the changes this year has brought. My wife and I both worked from home and juggled schedules with our 4-year old son. We got to know our neighbors and appreciated every minute spent with family. And there’s been a big change with my business. As the world adapts to the new normal, so has Game Night San Diego.
Introducing Grin Events (cue the smiles)!
We’ve changed our name and our look because, this year, we expanded in ways I only dreamed about in the past. We grew beyond our home base of San Diego and realized we are offering more than “just” games – our name and identity needed to reflect our new global reach and service offerings.
An Unusual Path
After graduating from UCLA with a degree in Computer Science, I quickly realized I wasn’t cut out to be a software engineer, or even a project manager. After a few entrepreneurial attempts, the “aha moment” came when a friend asked me what I was doing for work. I reluctantly told him and he told me to stop what I was doing and do what I do best. He said, “you’re a genius” at having fun and creating fun for others. That was the spark I needed to pursue a career better suited to my talents.
For me, that meant finding a way to connect people through games. I found my calling in the team building industry bringing people together to have fun outside of work with Game Night San Diego. Then COVID hit and bringing people together in person to play games became a very bad idea. After a few days of feeling sorry for myself, I realized this was an incredible opportunity to combine my technical skills with my true talents to create something amazing. We hosted our first virtual game show in April and haven’t looked back.
From Ear to Ear
As the old saying goes, “laughter is the best medicine.” We couldn’t agree more. Our new name, Grin Events, reflects our mission to get you and your team smiling from ear to ear with an experience filled with laughter. We want to help your employees connect with each other in a comfortable way outside their day-to-day. And while the studies show this improves productivity and collaboration, the truth is we really just love helping people have a good time. This is still at the heart of why we exist – to connect teams (and individuals) through fun.
Joy to the World
While we have a new name, the core of who we are remains the same. Over the last five years, we have helped countless teams connect through fun and play. We’ve hosted in-person corporate events, sandcastle wars, backyard-style games, and many others. This year, we were forced to adapt to the times to offer virtual events and widen our reach, and we couldn’t be more grateful. As your hosts, we still aim to bring memorable experiences to you and your team. We understand the value of being connected, especially in this new normal where we can’t get together in traditional ways.
Since the pandemic, the world has leaned more on technology to bridge the absence of physical connection. Not only has this made our mission more important than ever, Grin Events is creating new, innovative ways for people to come together including Team ConnectingTM, our version of team building. In expanding globally, we developed fun, online experiences even the Grinch can enjoy. It’s our way of spreading a little more joy around the world.
